Day 30 of the 30-Day Challenge on Hubpages

A Review of Where I have been and what is next

When you take the time to reflect back you can learn so much. A great deal has occurred in these 30 days. Besides many news alerts on radiation fallout and the Japan nuclear meltdown; running to the store to purchase kelp and buckwheat noodles to protect my thyroid; sudden Southern Tornados destroyed nearby neighborhoods; a number of people in the community had the loss of loved ones through sickness or age; others are in hospice waiting mode; a few babies born; celebration of Passover, Springtime and Easter; the start of planting gardens; re-evaluation of social networks and reading many other blogs. Who watched today's royal wedding?

This 30-Day Challenge has opened up Hubpages community with more connections and time spent learning a few more features, experts, applications and techniques.

Each time you think back what can you do better, what can your release and let go, what place do you want to enter or devote more energy to improving, we do get to a better place.

The response to questions, answers, comments and building relationships results as another important lesson as time passes.

Along the way, I met Anish92 who posted a Forum topic about What is allowed on Hubpages Each day I check My Hubpages. You can check yours at http://hubpages.com/my/hubs/stats and my other tutorial on using Hubpages

The Mystery of the Missing Hubpages Solves

Lately, an unusually phenomena has been occurring. I see the black triangle indicating broken links. Very often these show other hubpages that have gone missing. Does anyone know what has happened? Are people leaving the community in droves and taking their articles with them? Just as I'm checking in on Twitter a flash from Hub Patrol HubSearchDotNet tweets: A Dramatic Day for all HubPages Moderators http://bit.ly/kDE05V [checking #hubpages on Twitter] BTW: This tweet link was broken! How do you like that for irony? I found the correct link. http://hubpages.com/t/248c93

When you start to read the forums, you will inevitably see this abbreviations SERP, which stands for a "search engine results page." This tells the listing of web pages returned by a search engine in response to a keyword query.

The results of this type of keyword search gives a number of items: a list of web pages with titles, a link to the page, and a short description showing where the Keywords have matched content within the page. Learn more on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serp and even much more on WiseGeek

Mother's Day Inspiration

When I stopped seeing myself with the eyes of a child, I saw the woman who helped me give birth to myself. ~ Nancy Colbert Friday (born August 27, 1933) Author of "My Mother, My Self: The Daughter's Search for Identity" 1977

Questions I Ask Myself

I'm still in a quandary over the deepest question and one I imagine everyone asks themselves, "Why am I doing this?" The biggest answer is "Love." Not a strange answer, because everyone desires to be loved, cared for, supported, and appreciated.

In the past, surfing the net, I've found studies that say all of the Twitter Love and other internet interaction and feedback adds up to a lot of virtual love. But, do you know what? Your brain does not know the difference and the calming hormones activated push away those cortisol stress hormones. Thus, this good thing we call the internet feeds our emotions. The only negative thing about it, if we can't curb our addictions, we lose track of our in-person real lives. So, every so often close the computer. Call that friend and meet-up live. Go to local and regional networking events. I attended the National Center for Homeopathy Annual Conference this month during the 30-Day Blog Challenge.

I kept blogging right through the meeting, getting a little help from my friends about important topics. Working late into the wee hours of the night when slumber should have overtaken.

Hubpage Activity

So busy reading other hubber blogs, especially Ashantina's on suicide, which received a lot of activity and personal stories. Laughing hysterically from Ewbie's satiric take on Panda-moan-dium effects from Google crawling restructure. Participating in the Forums, we can learn so much from those in the know. Due to all the Panda changes to google search engine and its effects upon the author mill communities, this hot topic needed a lighter touch from the infamous Ewbie, who hit 100% Rating on Hubpages. whoo-hoo!

The ups and downs go in wild swings. My profile rating reached its highest 95% at one point. Some discussions on the Feed revolved about Hubpages Ratings.

Relief Upon Finishing

The great feeling of relief comes with a lovely sigh, when removing the pressure to perform. Even though the pressure will be shifted to another area of work or play, self care and responsibility, hubpages will not feel so obligatory. Instead, I better clean my room! You do know Mother's Day is around the corner on May 8th, 2011.

Yeah! This is your fortune this day. Calorie free!

Would You Do It Again?

Did you participate in this or any other Hubpages 30 Day Challenge? Would you do it again?

  • Yes. I learned so much. A great adventure. Pushed myself to my limit. It was a snap.
  • No. I couldn't even complete this challenge. Dropped out. Feel a bit like failure.
  • No. Started too late. Procrastinated. Got weary of the whole thing. Couldn't think what to write

I should probably vote in the poll. Would I do this again? Not in the immediate future. I would have to be in a place where I felt it would greatly benefit me in some way. Physically, the experience was demanding and draining of energy. The challenge to come up with topics only created a bit of procrastination of selecting from so many ideas on a few days.

The final week, the fourth quarter was actually the easiest because I selected the Coffee Theme ahead of time. This gave me a group of subtopics to delve deeply into and learn more about this subject and form my own opinions. I enjoyed bringing all these ideas together under one roof. Although selecting the theme gave me the opportunity to focus and concentrate on this topic, it also took a good deal of research time to pull it all together, dragging out the work time into the wee hours of the night when I should have been sleeping. That's just another big excuse.

Learning How to Open Targeted Links

I noticed that the option to open links in a new window is not enabled anymore. If anyone has the insight as to what happened I would be glad to hear about it. In fact, I will now go write a new hub detailing how to create new link in blank targeted link. But, there must be an easier way.

Debby. I think the whole idea is a nonsense. Only a few really capable people can write an article, a hub a day, and I had to (or tried to) wade through a lot of really poor, badly finished and checked rubbish. I loved yours and found a great percentage of what you wrote about interesting and valid, and I enjoyed reading the works of a hub friend, but... Eeuch! to some of the rest.

A lot of it was similar to one of the processes of Kopi Luwak

I keep pushing the "approve" comments button with nothing happening. MDLawyer thanks for visiting. Ian ~ I love our little secret. Kitty poop. Well, I have not read all the other challenge articles because of the demand to write authentic high quality articles every day. High personal expectations, you know. Blessings, Debby

Debby-loved the way you wrapped it all up in this hub while integrating the world's events. Missed the wedding, but caught the highlights. Missed the homeopathy event, but would have liked to have gone to it. I do close my computer and greet life in person; and I did not make the 30 this time around, although I did meet my goal in January when I first took the challenge. And, I always learn new things. :) Voted it up.

Hey there Denise ~ Sounds like you've done the challenge in January. Oh my goodness! I'll have to skim all of your 30 blogs. I missed the wedding too. LOL. The homeopathy event is continuous and on-going creating waves of awareness about this healing energy medicine. I must learn to close my computer down more often. So, to do this when you're busy making so many virtual friends? Be talking to you! Debby

Hello Khmohsin. I appreciate the sentiment. Please explain how you could be a newbie when you've been on Hubpages 2 years with 103 Hubs and hundreds of followers? You must be living on a different time scale than me. Enjoy!

Hello Debby. Just read cloverleaf's account of her 30-day challenge and it linked here, which is good. Wow! Congratulations! Inspirational. I know since reading both accounts I will do this challenge. I am going to put it on the drawing board tonight. You have some great articles to check out too. I am interested in the sympathy-empathy article. Thank you for sharing. I got your message too. Thanks. All I got to do is get time away from work more often.

Hello Dear Tim ~ I tried to contact you and hope you received my message. I will have to check out cloverleaf's 30-Day Challenge. I had no idea she linked to me here. I will say that you will need to store up a lot of energy to pull through the month. Take a deep breath and get ready, go! Maybe plan out four week's worth of blog themes to cover, or what types of blogs you will write? Will you have a standard format? Mix it up? Make some as photo journals or pull in some videos? Maybe take some of your finished blog and go into more depth on some new Hubpages. Good luck and send me reminders to visit. This month will be very busy for me. Blessings. Debby

DebbyBruck: What an entertaining, insightful summation of shared experiences and triumphs in the HubPages community! Your last paragraph to all the learning fun is beautiful, as is the photo of your mother.

Thank you, etc.,

Hello Derdriu ~ Many thanks for visiting this summation of 30-Days of writing; truly a challenge for anyone. Sometimes I wonder who is behind the people with hundreds and even thousands of Hubs? Something tells me a group of people get together and share the workload. Just a note that the woman's photo is Nancy Colbert Friday, the author of the quote in reference to Mother's Day. The last paragraph stated how it feels to complete such a feat, while simultaneously challenging others to think about "going for the gold" and doing it, too! Blessings, Debby

So it was you who had done this, I have heard about in podcasts. In this month I had challenged myself doing at least one hub every day but could not complete the challenge. Well it was not that I did not have any thing to publish but it was because my internet connection crashed. Nevertheless, I wish to go on publishing.

Namaste Vinaya ~ Many many people before me have accomplished the 30-Day Hubpages challenge. Many others have also done the 30-Day MORE thank two times. Eeeks! Blast me, don't think I could do it again. At least not right now. Very taxing on you to write that much if you have other things to attend to in your life. Good luck!

Debby: Thanks for sharing your experience with us! I can identify with your question, "why am I doing this?" I have not participated in the 30 day challenge but I really respect those who have done it. I'm trying to write 2 hubs per week...

Hello Miss Frost ~ The truth be told, you don't realize what you are getting into until you begin. It takes fortitude and self motivation to keep the energy going throughout the month. You think about writing Hubpages day and night and it becomes an obsession. Good luck if you ever try it! Blessings, Debby
