Hubpages New Changes In Comment Sections and YouTube Uploads
62Changes To Hubpages Comment Feature
The Hubpages administration continues to expand the capabilities for the authors to manage their blogs. In this tutorial readers will take a closer look at the comment section.
- When leaving a comment at the end of an author's blog you will see your profile avatar, your name and now an additional identifier. This black rectangle contains a rating scale of how much you participate in the commenting areas of Hubpages. I'm not sure exactly the titles for these ratings and how they are determined, but this seems to be a new way of encouraging people to post more comments. It reminds me of KLOUT.
- The official announcement, made in May 2011 [wondering why it took me so long to notice] explains that the more insightful the higher level rating. This is super because it means that instead of grading on the typical "great hub" or "thanks" as a comment, the content of the comment really exemplifies whether someone actually read and comprehended the blog. Plus, whether they had something of value to add so that other people might want to read their comment, as well.
On Your Profile Page -- BADGES
When commenting on your own Hubpages article in response to others who comment you will see a little green rectangle that states you are the HUB AUTHOR, just so you don't get confused.
It is highly recommended that you do leave a follow-up comment because the people 'following' the hub would likely want a response to confirm their comment was accepted and read.

View All Comment Management At Once
The second thing I noticed was the box pop-up that shows an aerial type view of your hub management tools. This is called the "Global Comment Capsule Settings" and you can determine in one click whether you would like to disable commenting on hubs, approve comments before they appear, enable only Hubber members to post comments, and show the most recent comments first.
The three columns Yes, No and Configure per Hub means that you can select to do this globally across all hubs or select individually to make these choices.
I would be interested to know what people choose to do? I would be most interested in the choice to disable further comments from being posted across all of your hubs. Why would someone do this?

When you make this selection you will have the options at the Comment section below each Hubpages written as shown below.
A comment tab tells you the benefit of keeping the COMMENT capsule on your Hupbages. Although, you do have the option to remove it using the "Don't display"
One more selection you may have overlooked concerns the number of comments you will enable on each Hubpage. I'm not sure why a person would select at of these values. Please post your comments and answers about this feature below in the comment section.
BONUS TUTORIAL INFORMATION
Since I'm on a roll, thought you might like to review your options when posting a POLL on your Hubpages. Take a look at image below.
- You can now CLOSE the Voting on a poll at any time.
- Stop showing a capsule [which you can do for any capsule]
- Remember, if you change any questions in a POLL that has already started you will lose any votes tallied.
BIG HUBPAGES TIP FOR AUTHORS
Hubpages has instituted many new features to keep the articles within requirements, no violations, pop-ups or unacceptable affiliate links. If you are receiving numerous email messages to repair your Hubpages articles, please check out the MODERATION HELP BLOG on VIOLATION LINKS

Most recently I have notice that a good portion of the YouTube videos no longer play on the Hubpages website. I imagine there is a monetary and copyright explanation.

Question for Hubpages Experts
When posting YouTube videos, is it possible not to have all related videos show after the one selected video plays here on Hubpages? Please provide instructions in the comment section if you do know how to configure that only one video plays.

On each video page you would go to Embed and then uncheck the box that says "Show suggested videos when the video finishes" That's how I would disable the related video feature.
Youtube's a funny thing but I guess that the videos either get removed because of copyright or sometimes videos are only available in certain country locations and they aren't allowed on Copyright grounds, since some videos will have ads and some won't I can't imagine that monetized videos will have anything to do with them not being shown on hubs.
I like the new comment features and it's only after reading this hub that your drew my attention to it lol!
I'm new to HubPages and found your page while hub hopping. Thanks for writing. I found it helpful and useful.
I guess I'd better run and check the hubs I have with videos. Thankfully, there aren't too many!
It seems that you have opted for the comments to be approved before they appear on your hub. One of the changes I just noticed was in my hub-feed your hub has two comments (soon be three) with a message that said, "Your comment has been submitted. It will appear once it has been approved by the author." Personally, I would rather that message not be there and the comments to be completely invisible until approved.
What are your thoughts on that change?
And... do you still see approving comments before they are shown as a goo idea?
Great hub! Voted up and useful! (I need to improve on my commenting abilities :))
Honestly I don't know, as I always want to show my related videos especially my drawing videos as it is a chance for others to go off and watch some more of my drawing videos, will have to check on that one!
Good hub - one thing I don't like about the new changes that seem to have just come in is that on the right side of each hub, under where it says 'Read more hubs by ' there used to be a 'Follow ' link. Now the only way to follow is to go to the hubber's profile. I found it way more convenient to follow someone directly from a hub of theirs I am reading.
Well written and useful. Thanks for all the info...
Excellent hub with great explanations of new Hub features.
Debbie,
You've always been quite generous to me in sharing my information and showing support in the Twitter stream. Thank you!
Hubpages is one place that I have limited knowledge, so I appreciate your insight offered here. I'm heading back to re-read and see how I might apply it to my strategy.
Thanks again!
~Keri
Thank you for excellent help towards more understanding the hubworld.
Recently a number of my video links were said to be disabled. Hub pages advised me of these broken links in my account and my choice was to leave them broken or remove them. Until I made that correction Hub pages icon would appear in my account, so I chose to remove them.
However one could remove them, choose another to replace it and that I did... Great hub btw, very informative and understandable. I had no trouble with any of your great suggestions. I do however to choose to allow everyone to leave a comment without my approval first, why? because I have simply not experienced a comment that I have had to delete it due to it upsetting me. I suppose it's because 95% of my scribes are Poetry, now who wants to upset a Poet:-)) Cheers, great Hub.
This was very informative. I noticed the changes, but didn't explore them much. I guess I have a bit more editing to do if videos aren't playing. I have been trying to use more of my videos than just randomly finding them on YouTube. Great hub! There were many useful tips!
I like that you write up-to-date Hubs about the most resent changes HP is making. This is very useful. I see you are using the TITLE tags to show subject of each link when one hovers their mouse over the links. Funny that another Hub of yours talked about editing the HTML and I thought of that. You are way ahead of me. :)
Something Phil Plasma said in a comment two days earlier (above) I Just wanted to add to... HP had removed the "follow Hubber" link from all the Hubs and it's only in the profiles now. I had posted about this in one of the forums where we had a discussion about it. We all miss it and I think it should be put back. It's easier to follow someone direct from their hub when one wants to.
I've got to check out your other Hubs. You have a lot to share. Voted up and useful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your help. If you ever need mine please let me know
very useful as I have only been using hubpages for 3 weeks....also well written...thank you!
yeah in three weeks I have done a lot....im like a rash, slightly annoying at first but then I grow on you.......
ummmm I dont know ........maybe like obama...I come from no where and then take over haha
lol thanks debby!
well done Debby, love the way you provide tips and simple instructions. Voted up.
Very informative hub, Debby! A clear explanation of all aspects around commenting.
I love it when a whole conversation develops as part of a hub (as we are seeing here). Can't imagine why someone would choose to disable comments!
I also think it is a bit rude if the author doesn't respond to the comments following a hub. One (hopefully!) wouldn't ignore someone who is talking to you, so why do that with a Hub? The feedback often is part of what motivates us to continue to write. Comments also often bring fresh ideas for new hubs. The interaction we are seeing here is the way it should be.
DebbyBruch: What a cogent, smooth presentation of a timely topic affecting us all! It is helpful the way in which you not only present problem causes and solutions but also provide us readers with polling/survey opportunities.
Voted up, etc.,
Derdriu
Very useful information, Debby. Do you, or any of the commenters here, have any thoughts on whether it's generally preferable to display the most recent comment first or last? I see that the comments on this hub are displayed in order from oldest to newest. Do you have a specific rationale for that choice?
Hi Debby, thanks for your response. I like your driving analogy, and it makes sense to me to stick with the "natural" way to read the page. I had temporarily set comments so that the most recent was at the top, but I found it more difficult to respond to an earlier comment, since the comment submission box remained at the bottom. I've now switched back to the standard layout with oldest at the top and newest at the bottom.
I was wondering about the dates of the comments. Since hubs get better ratings with age, doesn't the comment section cause problems? If a viewer reads the hub, and finds out it was written two years ago, they might feel like they are reading dated information, even if the hubber has updated it.
P.S. I would rather read comments in chronological order, so I know what the commenter has already written, and the replies make more sense.

I was wondering about why some videos did not work but did not realize it was a site-wide problem. I have just deleting that capsule but I hope it doesn't happen too often. Great useful hub, by the way!
