My First Act For The 2012 New Year Giving A Donation | Organic Resolutions
60My First Act For New Year 2012
Making New Year Resolutions
I have been considering what types of resolutions to make this year. The typical attempts to lose weight, get into shape, eat right resolutions can be stated both in broad general terms or by taking precise action steps.
Common Goals and Helpful Hints
Yes, I would like to get into shape, get off the computer, or at least reduce computer time through stretching, movement and walking. I'm still in the process of figuring out the best personal tips to accomplish this task. More about that later.
We begin with infectious enthusiasm
I have been thinking about the types of goals in many of the social networking communities, such as Hubpages, as I've been reading that my Hubber friends have crossed the finish line for their 30-day hubpages challenges. I don't think I will enter this year. But, instead create some other type of personal challenge.
- Do you think that to accomplish a goal one must say it out loud to others, have a time-line, a cheering gallery, tick the days or smaller chores off on a calendar and make it known to others?
- Can a person complete the task in a quiet self motivated manner without all the hooplah?
Thinking about better nutrition, no matter what shape you are in, means conscientiously selecting and preparing meals and keeping that fridge and cupboard stocked with only healthful food choices. And, I'm pleased to say I've already started off very well.
The Heart Of The Hub
My first act for the New Year has been good. I say this because sitting at my desk and paying bills can be challenging simply because it's not as much fun as writing a hubpages blog. It means sending mail and not e-mail. It means checking bank accounts and dealing with financial matters. Maybe some folks out there absolutely love playing with all the numbers, but I put it on the bottom of my priority list.
Recommend A System To Send Thanks
In addition, I have a subscription to an E-card program and I'm dedicating myself to sending thank you notes. I would say this is the first step in "giving" back to others. I received a surprise New Year snail mail greeting card from friend who I do not see that often. Wow! I had to thank her for thinking of me.
Gratitude For All The Little Things | Say It!
I used the E-Card program to send a hospitality thank you to each person who hosted me for a place to stay and meals on my family travels this winter break vacation. Appreciation means so much to me, and surely they will also be pleased to know that when they went out of their way to make up a bed, a room, a meal and rearrange their regular routine and life that they should be thanked.
What Happened For You The First Day Of The Year 2012?
Did you accomplish any of the New Year Resolution Intentions?

Congratulations if you fulfilled one of the items on your 'to-do' resolution list. Consistency to continue the effort in the following days without petering out will provide renewed joy each day. If you were distracted, or couldn't hold off on that cigarette or left over piece of chocolate cake, one main loving act of forgiveness means that you always have tomorrow. And, you don't even have to wait for tomorrow! Start now.

One good action leads to another
The true heart of this hub comes from the realization that I took out my check book and committed my pen to paper for an act of kindness to others in need. During these difficult economic times many charities and non-profit agencies depend upon our generosity. Delaying and putting off this act I would claim is human nature. We rationalize or hesitate, I may be speaking for myself only. Go back and fill out procrastination poll above.
Overcoming the mundane and doing good deeds
During a crisis, like the 911 communal experience, giving becomes more natural, quick and easy. But, during a regular day without seeing an individual's pain and trauma or slow death of an organization, there does not appear the urgency to give.
As I was saying, I really feel as if I have accomplished a mission that comes from the soul today, this first day of the year. What we do on the first day sets the direction for the rest of the year. Stepping one foot in front of the other, I can really envision walking the path of "light."
Happy Surprises
Strangely, because I did not even make this a priority or think about this act as a resolution, it became very organic, natural and really remarkable outcropping. My goal was to write the thank you notes and clear off my desk. Now, along with my initial goal, a number of items can be ticked off my list for this day.
- Clearing my desk of piles of paper
- Giving thanks in words using E-Greetings
- Giving appreciation in action by helping others in need
While doing all of this I had a nutritious fiber drink, rice cracker snack, a fennel salad, tried a new flower essence, made a delicious dinner for my daughter and her friends, and also gave a gift to my friend for her grand-daughter. Gosh! You know I am starting to feel really good about 2012. I better run out for a quick walk as the sun goes down and will finish up this little hub when I get back. Each time I give a little to others, I feel like I'm stretching and loosening up the natural impulse to save more for myself.

Your resolutions are very inspiring. I'm a kind of a person who procrastinates, and usually cannot go ahead with new year resolutions.
I admire your positive outlook for the New Year. It’s contagious.
Have a good one. :)

I didn't make a list this year because my list last year pretty much covered what I wanted to achieve and some of them were long term, like being thankful every day for what I have and maintaining my sense of self.
This is great
Happy holidays!
Wonderful hub Debby!
I totally agree that there's no better feeling than giving.
I haven't made any set resolutions this year, but have found over the last few months that I seem to work better with no set goals. I had a tendency to set myself a to-do list then do everything but what was on the list!! The more natural, organic approach suits me better :)
I'm researching local charities at the mo. I'd like to volunteer one afternoon a week as my health is improving. Other than that I'm concentrating on recovering and writing, working towards getting a place with my fella at last! I can't even tell you why but I feel very certain about these things and feel making an actual resolution about them would add pressure to myself that I don't need if that makes sense hehe
Anyway I'm waffling now!
Very inspirational hub, thank you

Hi Debby, thanks for the mention, much appreciated. I particularly like the way you have laid this page out, it's very attractive.
Great inspiring hub. I too seem to procrastinate....lack in finances a part of the problem...but a paln for an update in my car will most likely happen this year before the rattling timing chain gets any louder......lol
Debby, thanks for adding my hub on your resolution page.
PS: I'm trying to overcome procrastination. This is one of my New Year resolutions.
A lovely idea and great read.
