Have you ever gone to the fair or circus and walked into a tent or funny house where you look into a mirror and hundreds of mirrors reflect back at you? How do you know which reflection to believe as the real you?
At first, we saw the protestors using their cameras and cellphones to record and document their actions and the actions of the guards and police. Everyone needs to have their presence and reality of the event documented in case of jail lock up or a court case.
The masses of depressed and irate civilians gather together to state their feelings and opinions mostly because they don't feel their needs have been met or their voices heard as reflected in the actions of Congress and decisions of elected representatives
They show their situation by bringing their living rooms to the banking industry, and hope to confront their oppressors. Instead, they contend with anxious police officers who mill about the crowd and the echoing chants. Just five persons were arrested.
The NYPD have been well trained and it appears they remain calm. I notice the police recording the incidence and the people with their cameras to defend their position, too. I feel badly for the police that they must deal with these situations because American lives at stake have not been cared for properly through the legal system. The bail out to the banks profited only the higher echelon and elite, rather than dispersing funds to those in need and helping people find reasonable housing, and assisting with jobs.
Our skewed and screwed up understanding of economics, politics and the trends of industry and business has brought us down further than we've ever been before. In my humble opinion, I don't think anyone has an answer.
If a group of people can invent an iPad and iPhone that can condense every technological gadget into a tiny little hand held computer, which in the past would have filled many buildings worth of massive computers, I believe we must put our heads together and get out of this twisted maze of debt and unsustainable living.
- The video below from March 15, 2012, Occupy Wall Street as a peaceful protest against the BAC (Bank of American Corporation) illustrates the chanting voices and the sit in.
- People brought living room furniture to show they need someplace to live and like a symbol or mock eviction, the furniture was confiscated by the police.
- The people marched through New York's Financial District.
- The march culminated in a foreclosure of a branch of Bank of America by the people.
- Occupiers set up residence on the bank's sidewalk, until they were evicted by the NYPD.
- At least five arrests were made.
- One friend sent me a Twit Video, but they cannot be posted here on Hubpages.

Peaceful Protest in on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City
This date October 1, 2011 will be remembered for a peaceful, yet disturbing, protest by about 1500 members of the community of Brooklyn, New York as they gathered and were entrapped on the bridge by New York City #NYPD police. The Brooklyn Bridge was closed to all traffic that day. Approximately 400 were arrested this day.
Learning How To Use Twitter Hashtags
I first learned about the New York City Protest of the 99% while on Twitter and two friends started to use the hashtag #occupywallstreet. The value and importance of this event should not be overlooked. Simultaneously, you could be on Twitter getting immediate updates from people on the scene, or retweets from others tuning in via different communication channels.
The days activity does not end when the people are rounded up or sent home to scatter to their respective abodes. I'm wondering how people will travel around the neighborhoods in the city that never sleeps? I'm tuning in to the many reports, reruns, editorials, opinion pieces and the aftermath of legal implications. i can provide still frames of my twitter feed.
Democracy Now Live Audio Stream Broadcast
While I was listening to DemocracyNow, it came to my awareness that the same voice and report was repeating over and over again. Thus, we listen to the anxious frenzied voice of mass hysteria saying, "the crowd is being pushed back by the police." As in a sit-down protest, the people chant their message, then stand up, link arms and see if they can walk off the bridge without being rounded up or harmed.
- Inspired by the massive public protests in Cairo’s Tahrir Square and Madrid’s Puerta del Sol Square, hundreds have camped out in a square near Wall Street since Sept. 17, 2011, as part of a campaign dubbed "Occupy Wall Street." The encampment began after a protest that attracted thousands of people and has spawned several marches, including one near Union Square that resulted in 80 arrests. Video posted online from the protest shows a police office pepper-spraying a group of young women while they were surrounded by a police netting.

You could not miss the absence of mainstream media to cover this historic event. Now you can read an article on the New York Times which gets updated from time to time, but is not on the front page of the paper. Police Arrest About 500 Protesters on Brooklyn Bridge By AL BAKER and COLIN MOYNIHAN
Presently GlobalRevolution is broadcasting live from NewYorkCity Liberty Park where leaders. get up on the podium and speak or lead the crowd in chants or echos. The feeds get interrupted and lose signal. In addition to the video, the live stream of people chatting goes very quickly.

Learning from FLASH MOB events which began as entertainment and has turned into political action, people have used technology to organize, find like-minded people, support each other to create change from the bottom up and get their representatives in government, hopefully, to listen.

Hundreds Arrested and Carried Away in Busses
Gawker Dot Com Records The BK Protest
Gawker.com | Records an eye-witness report of the events of this day. Questions I want answered:
- Why did the police use the tactic to entrap by "kettling" or blocking off the protesters on all sides while on the bridge?
- What purpose does that serve, except to be able to 'tag' and identify the people who participated and take them off to the police station?
- Were the police planning to round up hundreds of people with all the busses waiting?
Follow The Money To WallStreet
This peaceful protest of the people was a culmination of 15-days of protesting the way this country handled the economic downturn by giving away unsupervised billions of dollars to the wealthy.
Hundreds of arrests were made including one of a young girl and New York Times freelance journalist Natasha Lennard. On twitter another journalist tweeted that the police cannot arrest reporters for the media news.
History In The Making
The important piece of information about this protest in my opinion is the way the world can follow minute by minute history in the making. We can even be a part of this event via the internet. And, everything we hear being said, the people-in-the-street's twitpic photographs, satellite photos of the Brooklyn Bridge and surrounding areas, City CAM Cameras, all of the audio feeds from telephones and the livestreams and feed videos all document this event for historians to evaluate and determine what actually happened from many vantage points.
Personally, I was sending text messages to family letting them know the events while they were happening, making sure everyone was safe. Wondering what will happen next?

Making Memories
Apathy may be one of the worst things that can happen to humanity. With the internet children, students and adults become participants in the form of observers. We know in physics that the observer can change the outcome of the movement of particles. In the same way, our group energy can make this event peaceful or non-peaceful.
At first, I had no idea what was going on. This history lesson in the making, got me interested and involved in our world. People were cheering and even chiming in on the Live Chat from what state they shouted their support. I sent tweets of #peace, others remarked #freedom. Becoming part of the group experience took the better part of the day and night to follow and explains why Twitter can be so addictive.

They closed down a major bridge and caused disruption, and didn't actually protest a specific thing…mainly got together to protest "the man" and smoke pot. How is this a good thing?
They need to learn to organize better, know what they are specifically against, and they will probably have more of an effect (without causing major chaos for innocent citizens who have nothing to do with wall street or the protestors who just need to get someplace).
EXCELLENT rundown Debbie. I was watching the live stream and the Twitter stream most of the day yesterday. I live in California. And,to the above commenter and all those who agree with him, maybe I can help clarify. The protest is against Wall Street hijacking and ruining our country and the demand is that our "freely" elected government do something to get our country back. It's really not that confusing.
The level of frustration and despair in this country is such that this event was inevitable and will be followed by others.
Thanks so much for sharing this historic moment with the blogosphere.
Hi Debbie, I advocated marching on Wall Street, peacefully, rather than on DC, a long time ago. This is because the power of finance effecting the lives of average Americans lies with big finance. I am happy to see that many have actually done this, and I am happy that I could contribute. You can see more of my writings, 60 articles at Business Insider where I contribute. I do it with no compensation. My url there is http://www.businessinsider.com/author/gary-anderso
I try to sell a few ebooks based upon those articles and based upon articles written at Hubpages to offset my internet costs.
I think Americans would be better served marching on the corrupt, private Federal Reserve organisation rather than Wall Street. The Fed are the ones pulling all the financial strings and along with the City of London control all global economic activity. Wall Street are merely players.
The irony is many of the protesters are keen for Obama to be re-elected yet his main source of election funds come from Wall Street!
It amazes me how many people don't know about this demonstration. But these days, you can't rely on mass media for an accounting of the real news. And the stories that you do hear on TV or radio - best to dig deeper to get the full story. I applaud the bravery of these folks. It can't be easy what with the intimidation tactics.
Splendid article and well written. Something has to give soon. All the economies are down and the bankers are getting billions not millions but billions of bonuses. I always had the suspicion they created it and so they did. The Eurozone is near benkruptcy. Yet nobody will take any measurements and they can be taken. Why, because they can't fill their pockets anymore. Any of them
great hub debby. i wrote a hub about the book, The Smartest Guys in the Room re: Enron. if people want to see exactly what we're protesting, the culture of greed in America, they should read that book.
Great hub!! Sign the petition if not in New York!!
Yes, the absence of coverage by mainstream media was more than just noticeable, it was indicative of a suppression of the movement. But, just as happened in Greece, we are proving that we don't need mainstream media. We have our own and we know how to use it. I think the more they try to suppress this movement, and begin to fear it and attempt to discredit it (already happening), the stronger the movement will become. Thanks for the great post.

I participated in the protests with no camera but many of my friends had them. It was a surreal and yet a liberating experience that everyone should feel. If this does anything it will definitely wake up Americans. I plan to go back tomorrow because I did not make down there today. I fully support this movement it is well over due! Please read my very first hub on my brief stay for the cause. I took water and snacks and they were grateful for the support. Many people are now getting behind this historical movement and media is just now covering it(half ass) Thank you for a very informative hub. Many do not know this is happening and is starting up in other states as well. As this grows I will be on the front lines reporting to those who are in the dark. Again great hub. God Bless. Keep covering this!
