A Photo Journal To Teach Your Children What is Unsafe Toxic For Animal Friends & Pets To Eat

April 6, 2011 Day 6 of the Hubpages Challenge

Today's hubpage will be something new that I've never done before. I've seen many wonderful photo-journals. Simply a page filled with photographs revolving around a theme, like architecture, faces, portraits, quilting, clothing, textures, lamps, landscapes or any other subject.

A PHOTO JOURNAL ON PET FOODS

The photos presented here make the foods memorable and this quick snapshot helps children learn to recognize these items. I hope these images will remind you and your children what not to feed your pet, even just for fun or to test their reaction. Some people will comment that they provide these potentially dangerous foods to their pets with no harm at all. This may be so, because of the different types of animals and also the individuality of each pet's susceptibility.

WHY THIS HUBPAGE IS UNIQUE

Even though this material appears all over the internet, the presentation and main theme is unique. The main thought here is to TEACH YOUR CHILDREN about these food items. Find ways to impress upon them the serious consequences that can occur. We must also take into account the way we prepare food for our families and to take note that providing these same foods as table scraps will not do them any good. So, your child should learn not to slip the unwanted food item off the plate onto the floor or into the pets mouth.

As you look at each photo, you may talk about the benefits to humans and then learn the differences when animals ingest these same foods. Talk about the colors, flavors and shapes of the foods, Parents and children can bond while partaking of this learning activity. And, if the pet happens nearby, I'm sure he will be spoken to like part of the family, and point a finger, "Don't you go eating so and so because..." This will affirm and plant this idea in the child's mind.

THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL PET STORY

I don't have a personal story about poisoning my pet, however you will read many stories on the other websites dealing with pet food poisons. In addition, when you do a search you will find many articles about canned pet foods and legal cases, deaths and injuries due to regular canned foods. The excellent video shown here covers an enormous amount of information, even what to do in an emergency. She speaks clearly and tells you to keep telephone numbers handy, just like you would for your children to have a 911 number. I learned about avocado from her.

By the way, if you are writing a hubpages and you receive a warning about duplicate and repeated information, that will pop up almost immediately. Today, I recorded a special audio file about how to prepare your 30-day challenge hub, but did not have enough time to post it. Therefore, it may be in the next hub or added later.

MY JOURNAL ON THE 30 DAY CHALLENGE

I can tell you this challenge pushes you to your limits, especially when you have many other chores and demands each day. The fact that everyone tries to write something new means you must search out new topics that have not already been well covered. I guess it was not going to be as easy as I thought. As a very creative person, I did not imagine I'd get slapped down so quickly. I'm wondering the experience of other hubbers here. Please post your comments and let me know how you are doing?

LEARNING BY DOING AND SHARING WITH OTHERS

In essence, this hubpage provides the pictorial about the toxic foods, PLUS the learning experience of authoring on Hubpages. I've written previously about the blog "mills" that google has tried to eliminate with new algorithms. This makes it much more difficult to write an acceptable article. I'm interested to learn from others their experiences now that they have automated a checking system. I've also added some helpful information about emergency care for pets using homeopathic remedies and highly recommend having a kit either at home or in your car.

MAKE IT INTO A EDUCATIONAL PARTY GAME FOR CHILDREN

Again. I'd like to remind everyone that the reason I posted this was to make the images memorable and perhaps you will look at your food differently and tell your children was is safe or not safe to give to your pets. Perhaps you can even make this into a game. Print out the images onto cards and then pass them to the kids.

Have children at a party sit in a circle and each child has to add one more word. See how many they can remember before the child goes out. It could be quite educational to talk about each of these foods and their properties. They will probably wonder why it is okay for them to eat and not their pet.

Homeopathic remedies are safe for children, adults and animals. Therefore, in an emergency situation if you have a kit handy these remedies can safe the day while rushing to the clinic.

Arsenicum album for food poisoning when there is weakness, vomiting and diarrhea, restlessness and a desire for sips of water.

Pulsatilla after bad fish. The pet needs company.

Lycopodium from shellfish that upsets the animal.

China officanalis for weakness, vomiting, shaking, dehydration.

Nux vomica for any indigestion, especially after alcohol, hops, beer.
